Ashish C. Bhatia, MD, FAAD, FASDS, FASMLS
Dr. Bhatia is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, and a President of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is the co-founder of Oak Dermatology, with offices in Naperville, Itasca, and Joliet, Illinois, where he also serves as Director of Clinical Research. He holds academic appointments as Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, and at Rush University School of Medicine in Chicago.
His clinical expertise is centered on laser and energy-based devices, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, Mohs surgery, skin cancer therapy, and restorative procedures for adults and children with surgical, traumatic, and burn-related scarring.
Dr. Bhatia has been deeply engaged in medical innovation throughout his career, working alongside engineers, basic scientists, and researchers to advance technologies from concept through commercialization. He has served as principal investigator on Phase II, III, and IV clinical studies across multiple therapeutic areas, and has played an instrumental role in bringing more than 25 drugs and devices to market over the last decade. These include lasers for both functional and aesthetic applications, devices and injectables, and technologies for autologous tissue regeneration and skin repigmentation — with applications spanning burns, trauma, and surgical reconstruction.
He has served on the board of directors of both the ASDS and ASLMS, and on advisory and corporate boards spanning early- and late-stage medical device, pharmaceutical, and consumer health companies. He has extensive committee experience at the AAD, ASDS, and ASLMS.
Dr. Bhatia received his MD from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his dermatology residency at the Medical College of Virginia, where he served as Chief Resident, and went on to complete an intensive fellowship in Mohs Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, Reconstruction, and Cosmetic & Laser Surgery at SkinCare Physicians in Boston, under the direction of faculty from Harvard, Boston University, and Yale University School of Medicine.
He has published extensively in journals and textbooks and is a sought-after teacher and speaker nationally and internationally.
