Suzanne Linsmeier Kilmer, MD, is an internationally recognized leader in dermatology and laser medicine. She is the Founding Director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California and serves as a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Kilmer is widely respected for her pioneering contributions to laser innovation, clinical research, and physician education.
Dr. Kilmer earned her medical degree and completed her dermatology residency at UC Davis Medical Center. She then pursued advanced training through a prestigious laser surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine under the mentorship of Dr. R. Rox Anderson. During her time at Harvard, she remained on faculty and participated in groundbreaking research involving Q‑switched lasers for tattoos and pigmented lesions, as well as rapidly pulsed CO₂ lasers for skin resurfacing.
Upon returning to Sacramento, Dr. Kilmer became deeply involved in clinical research and innovation, serving as a principal investigator in more than 300 clinical studies. Her work spans a broad range of technologies, including skin resurfacing, laser hair removal, cosmetic injectables, body contouring, muscle stimulation devices, microwave treatment for hyperhidrosis, and picosecond lasers for tattoo removal and acne scars.
A sought‑after speaker and educator, Dr. Kilmer lectures nationally and internationally and has authored numerous scientific publications. She is a Past President of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and has served on the boards of both ASLMS and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). Her many honors include the ASLMS Ellet Drake Lectureship Award, the Leon Goldman Award, the Vic Narurkar Innovations in Aesthetic Dermatology Lectureship, and multiple presidential citations recognizing her lifelong contributions to the field.
When not playing in the electromagnetic spectrum, Dr. Kilmer enjoys skiing, pickleball, puzzles, beach walks, and spending time playing games with her family.
