Dr. Tan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy and Director of the Stem Cell and Organoid Core at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. His research focuses on stem cell biology, congenital vascular malformations, vascular aging, and laser-based modalities for vascular interventions. His laboratory has developed disease-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and iPSC-derived vascular cells and organoids as clinically relevant models to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying vascular diseases and endothelial dysfunction. In addition, his work explores the development of adjuvant strategies to enhance the efficacy of laser-based therapies.
